The Holiday Co. Guide to… Byron Bay

Australia has no shortage of beautiful beaches but Byron Bay might have the best. Soz, Bondi!

If you’re looking for an affordable holiday on home soil (because international flights from Australia cost an arm and a leg… and maybe a kidney) we couldn’t recommend Byron highly enough. Naturally, we had to do a Byron Bay travel guide with just some of the highlights.

STAY: Wategos Beach

White sands: check. Peaceful tides: check. Free beachside barbies: check! While all of Byron Bay is gorgeous, you can’t go wrong grabbing accommodation close to this little slice of heaven. Plus, set your alarms so you don’t miss the sunrise over Wategos Beach – stunning.

WALK: Minyon Falls

It’s not just about the beach (and we don’t say that often!). The Minyon Falls walking track leads to the base of spectacular waterfalls smack-bang in the heart of the forest. Take a dip in the cool refreshing waters and leave the stresses of city life behind.

SEE: Festivals

Known as the “rainbow region” and home of Australia’s hippie movement, Byron Bay is a vibrant hub of culture. Depending on the time of year, you can catch the Byron Bay International Film Festival, Byron Spirit Festival, Bluesfest or Falls Festival. Or simply pop into a gallery exhibition or live gig, because there’s always something happening in Byron.

SHOP: Jonson Street

You can buy almost anything at Fletcher Street in the CBD, but we have a soft spot for Jonson Street, a stone’s throw away from the water. It offers a plethora of cool surf shops, for that hippie-chic outfit that just screams you’ve been holidaying in Byron.

EAT: Beach Byron Bay

Look, it’s Byron Bay – you’re going to be able to find fresh, delicious, healthy food literally anywhere. To help you narrow down your options, we love Beach Byron Bay – and so does every Instagrammer, it seems! Favourites include Moreton Bay bug ravioli, Appellation oysters and takeaway fish and chips (if you haven’t guessed, the seafood here is incredible).
